Emoji conventions

Lucille uses emoji in two distinct ways — and they mean different things.

1. Emoji reactions on your messages (the progress protocol)

When you send Lucille a message, she reacts to it with emoji as she works through it. The reaction is on your message and changes as the work progresses. This lets you see what stage Lucille is at without her sending a wall of "thinking…" / "working on it…" messages.

ReactionMeaning
👀Received. Lucille has read the message and authenticated it.
🤔Classifying — figuring out what kind of message this is. Sometimes also "thinking" in the broader sense.
Acting — running a tool, dispatching a job, or executing a command.
🤓Looking up something Lucille remembers (a stored "thought" — see Thoughts).
🤗Generating a chat reply.
✍️Saved as a note. This appears only when Lucille captured what you said as a note and is NOT sending a reply. If you see ✍️, your message has been filed.
🫡Done. Action completed, no reply needed.

A reaction stays on your message until Lucille either replaces it with the next stage's emoji or — if she's about to send a reply — clears it entirely. So if you see no reaction on a message Lucille replied to, that's expected: the reply itself is the completion signal.

In group chats or contexts where Telegram doesn't support reactions, Lucille falls back to text-only acknowledgements ("Thinking…", "Saved as a note.").

2. Emoji inside Lucille's replies (stylistic, not a protocol)

Sometimes Lucille uses emoji inside a reply for warmth or scanability — e.g. a 🎯 next to a goal, a 📅 next to a date. These are stylistic and don't carry a protocol meaning.

"What does this emoji mean?"

If you ask Lucille what an emoji means and she just used it in this conversation, she'll explain what she used it for here — not give a generic dictionary definition. For example: "I used ✍️ to show I captured your message as a note" rather than "the writing-hand emoji typically signals writing or editing."

If she hasn't used the emoji in your conversation, she'll fall back to a general explanation and say so plainly.
